"The Traveling Trunks" Program...History takes a road trip!
The Depot Museum understands how hard it is for some people to come to our museum, especially school children. In response to that problem, we have developed a way to bring history to you!
The “Traveling Trunks” program provides hands-on artifacts and local history from three key periods in history – The Civil War, The Turn of the 20th Century, and World War II. The program is specifically aimed at 7th through 12th grade students but can be tailored to other ages or groups.
The presentation includes tools, clothing, music, artifacts, art, and first-hand accounts from these periods in history. We’ve have localized the presentation with specifics from our immediate region and Missouri as a whole. Each presentation lasts one class period for each trunk. This means you may call on us three different times during the school year.
There have been some schools/groups that requested we make a one-hour presentation using all three “Trunks” in one presentation. We were happy to accommodate those requests, but obviously each presentation had to be “watered down”.
For scheduling information, call 573-481-9967 between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, or e-mail the Museum at depotmuseum@sbcglobal.net. (We would appreciate at least three or four days prior notice.) The program is ABSOLUTELY FREE if your schools is within 35 miles of Sikeston. Their will be a nominal mileage fee for schools beyond that radius.
The “Trunks” are geared to MAP standards, and may be used to enhance your scheduled lessons. It is also an ideal “filler” for those days that are disrupted by MAP testing, workshops, assemblies, etc.
